Building a New Home

We thought building a new home was a pipe dream. We talked about it, dreamed about it, and hoped for it…think it would happen someday, but never before retirement or when the kids were still young.

New home with grey siding and white trim. An American flag flying in the wind on the front porch. It's fall too with orange mums in rusted tin planters and a stack of cornstalks leaning against the home.

Then God presented opportunity after opportunity and eventually we believed building a new home might be a possibility.

However, we could not afford a new home without building it ourselves. It was simply out of the question. I still don’t know how God did it, but he put the dream in our hearts and paved the way.

Sure my husband was handy and built things. A shed is just like a house, right? 😉 After looking into building our own house and speaking with others who had done it, we were confident we could do it.

Errrr…hopeful, may be a more accurate word!

Family of four standing in front of their first home with a for sale sign in front of it. The home is tan with white trim and eggplant colored shutters.

So we quickly put our home of 10 years (our 1st home!) on the market, purchased the 2.15 acre lot we fell in love with, and Ryan started drawing up our house plans.

Our home took 3 months to sell and within that time we moved all of our stuff out to my parents home and started to ready ourselves to live in their cute guest house.

Beautiful land ripe in the summer air. Tall green grass with whispers of yellow and trees in the background.

We knew it would be tight quarters, the four of us with our two dogs, living for a year in 430 square feet. Granted, the home we started our family in was only 958 square feet and we all fared just fine.

I am so thankful God directs our steps and not us. I would surely have messed this whole huge-scary-exciting-intimidating-amazing project up!

If building a new home is something you have dreamed of, I hope the information and images Ryan and I share is helpful to you!

Have fun roaming around here and if you have questions be sure to leave a comment or send us a quick e-mail. We’ll be happy to hear from you. Many blessings!
