  • Butter – We recommend using unsalted butter to avoid an overly salty taste. Make sure to let it sit out and soften before you begin. 
  • Italian Seasoning – We always have homemade Italian seasoning on hand, but a store-bought blend will also work. 
  • Bread – Make sure to choose a thick, crusty bread such as French bread or Italian bread. Otherwise, it won’t hold up to the weight of the toppings! 
  • Pizza Sauce – Save time, and use your favorite store-bought pizza or marinara sauce. 
  • Mozzarella Cheese – For the best taste and texture, buy a block of mozzarella and grate it yourself.

How to Make This Baked Garlic Bread Pizza Recipe 

Before you begin, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and set it aside. 

  1. Create herbed butter. Mix the softened butter and Italian seasoning in a small bowl until well combined. (If you can find garlic butter at your local grocery store, feel free to skip this step, and use that instead.)
  2. Bake. Slice the bread in half lengthwise. Then, spread the butter evenly on both halves. Bake just until the bread is toasted and the edges are lightly browned for a crispy crust. Don’t skip this step! It helps prevent your “pizza” from becoming soggy. 
  1. Top. Spread the pizza sauce evenly on top. Then, add the mozzarella and any of your desired toppings. Bake again just until the cheese is melted and the toppings are heated through. 
  2. Enjoy! Cut each bread half into equal-sized pieces, and serve warm.

Feel free to mix and match all your favorite pizza toppings. We always add sliced pepperoni, sliced red onion, sliced bell pepper, and sliced black olives.

Can I make air fryer garlic bread pizza? 

Sure! Butter the bread as usual, and air fry around 350 degrees until toasted. Then, add the toppings, and air fry again to melt the cheese. Work in batches as needed. 

Can I use frozen garlic bread?

Yes, feel free to use frozen, ready-to-bake, Texas toast or garlic toast. Just make sure to thaw it in the fridge first. Then, add your favorite toppings, and reheat, being careful not to burn.

How long do leftovers last? 

Stored in an airtight container, leftover garlic bread pizza will stay fresh in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat, warm leftovers in the oven at 350°F for 6-8 minutes, in the microwave for 15-30 seconds, or heat in a covered skillet over low heat until warm.

Can I freeze this recipe? 

We don’t recommend it! The bread is likely to become too soggy once thawed.

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (see notes)
  • 1 loaf (16 ounces) French or Italian bread
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional Toppings

  • 3 ounces sliced pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup sliced bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter and Italian seasoning until combined. Set aside.

    1 cup pizza sauce, 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, 3 ounces sliced pepperoni, 1/4 cup sliced red onion, 1/4 cup sliced bell pepper, 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the toppings are heated through. Cut each half into 4-5 pieces and serve immediately.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Notes

Substitute Tips – Replace the Italian seasoning with 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon dried basil, ¼ teaspoon dried oregano, ¼ teaspoon dried parsley and ¼ teaspoon salt. 
Prep Tips –  Always toast the bread and butter first, so the pizza will not be soggy.
