The BEST Guacamole Recipe
Learn how to make guacamole with just seven ingredients. Savory, tangy, and so delicious, this homemade guacamole recipe is way better than anything you’ll find in the store and comes together in minutes!
Looking for more homemade dips or condiments? Try our 9-layer dip and easy pico de gallo, too!

You guys. This is hands down the best guacamole recipe you’ll EVER taste! Our entire team adores it. And Sammi’s husband’s grandpa even requested she bring it to a Super Bowl party, which is how we know it’s the best guacamole ever.
You see, we wouldn’t call this man picky, but he definitely knows what he does and doesn’t like. And in 20 years he never once requested she bring something over until he tried this dip. So, you know it’s got to be good! Even better, it’s made with just a handful of simple ingredients and is quick to prepare.
Recipe Ingredients
Below is an overview of the ingredients and instructions for this easy guacamole recipe. Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details and step-by-step instructions!

- Avocado – Make sure to choose perfectly ripe avocados that are dark green in color and give just slightly when squeezed.
- Finely Tomatoes – We use Roma tomatoes because they’re less juicy or watery than other varieties. No one wants soggy guac!
- Red Onion – Chopped finely this adds a hint of tang and the perfect crunch.
- Lime Juice – Freshly lime juice is best! This adds a delicious citrusy flavor and prevents the guac from browning.
- Hot Sauce – This is our secret to the best taste. We use Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, but any kind will work.
- Spices – Salt and garlic powder add the perfect savory touch.
How to Make Homemade Guacamole from Scratch

- Mash. Add the avocados to a bowl and mash the avocado to your desired consistency. We leave it a little on the chunkier side. You can always smooth it out later, but you can’t add more chunks if you mash it too much!

2. Add the remaining ingredients. Gently fold in the tomatoes, red onion, lime juice, hot sauce, and spices.

3. Enjoy! Give your guacamole dip a taste test, adjust the flavors if needed, and dig in.
Tip: If you want a picture-worthy presentation, sprinkle finely chopped onions, tomatoes, or cilantro on top of the guacamole just before serving.
Flavor Variations
The great thing about making guacamole at home is that you can mix and match different ingredients to suit your preferences. If you’re looking for ideas, some great additions include:
- Diced Jalapeño or Serrano Peppers
- Cotija Cheese
- Fresh Cilantro
- Mango
- Pineapple
Ways to Serve
If we’re being honest, we’re guilty of eating this recipe with nothing but a spoon. However, it’s also great with tortilla chips, cucumbers, sliced peppers, carrot sticks, celery sticks, naan bread, and pretzels.
Or, you can use it as a condiment with burrito bowls, chicken quesadillas, walking tacos, beef enchiladas, air fryer nachos, and all your favorite meals! We love to add it to our 9-layer dip, too.

Common Questions
Try adding an extra drizzle of lemon juice or lime juice. Or, if you’re storing leftovers, the best way to prevent guacamole from browning is to cover the guacamole dip with plastic wrap. Make sure it touches the dip directly. This prevents air from touching it, which is what causes the mixture to turn brown.
Cover your guac with plastic wrap. Or, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to three days.
